Manually finding and tracking important contract data such as renewal dates, pricing terms, and any bespoke details is exceptionally inefficient and unreliable for businesses. Because each agreement often includes unique, company or industry-specific provisions, relying on spreadsheets or ad-hoc filing hurts your productivity in many ways, such as:

    • Introducing costly errors and omissions (missed deadlines, overlooked obligations)

    • Creating compliance and regulatory risks when specialized clauses aren’t monitored

    • Leading to revenue leakage (untracked discounts, unexercised renewals, mispriced services)

In short, the manual approach not only drives up administrative costs but also exposes your organization to operational, financial, and legal fallout.

That’s why we introduced custom extractions in Docusign Navigator.

Capture the exact agreement data you need

Docusign Navigator, an AI-powered agreement repository, already finds and extracts common types of contract data automatically. While these out-of-the-box data extractions are an essential first step to tracking and analyzing your agreements, we know flexibility is key.

Custom extractions, currently in beta, make it easy to see and track the data in your contracts that matters to you, saving you hours and delivering instant insights.

You can pick any term unique to your company, point Docusign to a few agreements that include it, and Iris, Docusign’s AI engine, does the rest to find that attribute in all of your agreements. Then, those attributes appear when you’re searching through your agreements or building reports about them.

Once AI detection is enabled for a custom field or agreement type, all newly signed agreements in Navigator will be processed automatically. For existing agreements, contract managers can select which ones to reprocess with the new extraction.

Now you can confidently track business-specific terms such as rebates, lease information, or clinical-trial data. Custom extractions bring you immediate insights into your business, personalized for you.

Let’s look at how this works for a procurement team looking to identify underutilized service level agreement (SLA) service credit opportunities.

In just a few clicks, you can have Iris identify which master service agreements (MSAs) have software uptime commitments and related credits. All you have to do is upload a few example contracts and highlight where this language appears in the document so Iris will recognize it in the future.

Once Iris knows what to look for, it will surface this information in your core view of Completed agreements. You can then assign these agreements to a team member to monitor, or in the event of a breach, you have this information at your fingertips to quickly contact the vendor and request service credits.
